What is Rheumatology?
Rheumatology is a branch of medicine specialising in the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disease and systemic autoimmune conditions known as ‘rheumatic’ diseases. This incorporates over 200 disorders that can affect the joints, muscles and bones causing pain, stiffness, swelling and deformity, but may also involve other organ systems.
Many musculoskeletal symptoms are common and not due to a serious underlying cause or medical condition. Dr Bell consults on all aspects of adult rheumatology and will provide reassurance or recommend further tests (such as X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, blood tests) and treatments when required.
If you require further advice as to whether a rheumatologist is the best specialist for your needs, your GP will be able to advise. Alternatively contact us here. Or you may wish to read further about rheumatic conditions here.
